Manifesto

Studio Selva approaches communication as a relational process rather than a one-way transmission. The aim is to create visual narratives that invite audiences to engage rather than simply consume.

Projects grow from dialogue, curiosity, and attention — both to the environment and to the communities they touch.

The studio’s perspective is informed by a background in environmental management and biodiversity conservation, alongside long-term visual research on wild herbaceous plants.
This combination of ecological knowledge and visual practice supports projects that seek to communicate sustainability, culture, and environmental awareness.

Here, nature is not a backdrop but acts as a point of reference — every project is an opportunity to explore alternative ways of seeing, communicating, and connecting.

Behind
Studio Selva

Studio Selva is the creative practice of Ru, a non-binary visual artist and creative director based in Berlin.
With a background in contemporary photography and cultural education, as well as a Master’s degree in biodiversity conservation management, Ru works at the intersection of art, ecology, and visual communication.

After several years working in cultural marketing and creative direction within major institutions, Ru chose to move away from performance-driven communication to focus on a more thoughtful and value-driven practice.

Alongside client work, Ru develops an ongoing field-based artistic research on wild herbaceous plants, observing how spontaneous ecosystems can inspire new ways of thinking about collaboration, diversity, and resilience.

WILD
GUIDES

Plants that shape the thinking behind
Studio Selva

Find the one that resonates with you — or the project you are growing.

Taraxacum officinale

Dandelion thrives in disturbed ground — cracks in pavement, roadsides, urban soil. Each flower becomes a globe of wind-borne seeds, turning dispersal into a strategy of survival.

A guide to transformation, adaptability, and quiet persistence.

Urtica dioica

Nettle protects itself with microscopic stinging hairs that release formic compounds when touched. Yet once understood and prepared, it becomes one of the most nutrient-rich wild plants.

A guide to boundaries, awareness, and reciprocal respect.

Achillea millefolium

Yarrow has accompanied human medicine for centuries. Its finely divided leaves and resilient flowers have been used to support wound healing and restore balance.

A guide to repair, attention, and collective care.

Plantago major

Plantain thrives wherever humans walk — paths, roadsides, compacted soils. Long valued for its soothing medicinal qualities, it is a plant of quiet persistence and proximity.

A guide to presence and constancy.

Cirsium sp.

Thistles stand tall in open fields and disturbed ground, their spiny armor discouraging careless touch.
Yet their vibrant flowers are among the most valuable food sources for pollinators.
What appears harsh or defiant often shelters quiet generosity.

A guide to wild dignity, resilience, and ecological generosity.

Malva sylvestris

Mallow has long been used for its soothing, mucilage-rich leaves and flowers, calming irritation and protecting delicate tissues.

A guide to gentleness, restoration, and healing softness.
